About Greg

More than an Accountant

My passion is sport

Born an asthmatic and susseptable to broncial problems, I missed many days of primary school.

My father didn't take that, and encouraged this little guy , I was the smallest in my class, to participate in sport.

I did finally, produce some good schoolastic results, even so.

While being too small to play rugby, I took on the game of field hockey at secondary school, captaining the 2nd eleven to top results, while also helping the 1st eleven . . . as a substitute.

Dad encouraged me to go sailing . . .

My Dad built me a P class, and pushed me off the shore . . . I have never had a bout of asthma while on a yacht.

From that beginning

I got the opportunity to represent New Zealand in yachting, as bowman in Sydney.

My father and brothers had represented NZ at yachting and I got my opportunity.

I went on to compete in some of the most famous yachting events, in the Sydney Hobart yacht race, the San Francisco Big Boat Regatta, and the Hawaii International Regatta, as Navigator, as well as racing my yacht in the Around the North Island Two Man yacht Race.

I did also achieve my dream, and competed in the Fastnet Race, racing on a top dutch Admirals Cup yacht.

Now I am still competing with a radio controlled yacht

Gregory William Paul - CPIM

Qualified Accountant . . . General Practitioner . . .

CPIM - Certificate in Production and Inventory Management

Born in Auckland, New Zealand

I started in Chartered Accountancy, and while doing 5 years in Auditing, a great learning factor, I moved into commercial accounting.

I enjoyed being involved on the day to day aspects of working for a company, no matter what industry it was involved in.

This gave me a great grounding in business, not just accounting.

I grew to the postion as Company Secretary, of a medium sized New Zealand Company, but, yearned for the computer industry.

The next years were spent selling and installing small business systems into a variety of businesses, and developing my ability to assimilate what a business needs, setting up the software to suit their requirements, and then producing operating procedures to suit the company and the people concerned.

I do not have paper evidence, but, I wish I had a dollar for everyone who said to me . . . "Why didn't the last guy say it like that . . . I now know what he meant"

I speak business english. Not jargon.

1997 . . . The Crash

Unfortunately, I started my own business the week of the 1997 crash.

Yes, Business systems and support.

Well, no one wanted to buy a new system. Buggar.

So I got involved in the APICs situation, the American based education system for Production and Inventory Control. Now I'm a also a CPIM.

More recently I have worked for a New Zealand Company, Nova Inks and Chemicals Ltd, (now Hostmann Steinberg NZ), in the postion of Inventory Control and Overseas Ordering, working with a 3 month delivery time.

This gave me the opportunity to use all my knowledge, and skills to run
the overseas ordering, the stock control and my accounting background to help the company to progress to No 1 in the New Zealand environment.
